Ceramic coating is a liquid treatment that's applied to a vehicle's exterior to protect the paint from damage. It's made of silicon dioxide, which is often derived from quartz or sand, and creates a hydrophobic, or water-repellent, layer over the paint. Ceramic coating can be semi-permanent or permanent, depending on the type of coating and polymer used.

Here are some things to know about ceramic coating:

  • Benefits

Ceramic coating can protect your car's paint from dirt, grime, stains, UV rays, acid rain, pollution, bugs, tar, and bird droppings. It can also make your car easier to wash and keep it cleaner for longer.

  • Application

Ceramic coating is usually applied by hand and blends with the car's paint. It's different from waxes and sealants, which are applied in a similar way but are thinner and don't last as long.

  • Durability

The durability of ceramic coating depends on the type of coating, but it can last 1–5 years.

  • Cost

The cost of applying ceramic coating can vary depending on the condition of the car's paintwork, but it's usually inexpensive compared to the cost of polishing the car.

  • Maintenance

While ceramic coating can make your car easier to wash, you still need to clean it regularly.

Some popular brands of ceramic coating include Modesta, Nanolex, CQuartz, Ceramic Pro, and IGL Kenzo.
